FIrST BEGINNINGS
Boasting 65 years of history, MotoGP is the oldest of all motorcycle competitions in
the world championship - the first year of competition was held in 1949
Since 1900, the MotoGP competition has been held in different countries. In 1938, the predecessor of the
current FIM, FICM (Federation Internationale des Clubs Motocyclistes), announced the European Championship.
However, the start of the Second World War disrupted the plans and therefore there was no European
Championship, and after the war it took some time for petrol to become available before an international
MotoGP series could be created.
